Pressed peat fuel
Pressed Peat are a good fuel for power and heating plants. In Sweden and Denmark, for example, they are used instead of coal or for priming other fuels in the coldest periods. In single locations Peat briquettes and Pellets are particularly suited to buildings with a boiler rating of 20-1000 kW. In Finland, small companies, municipal buildings and single homes are typical locations heated by pressed peat. Price is a factor in favour of Peat briquettes and Pellets compared to oil. In addition, usage is easily automated. It is easy to switch to Peat briquettes and Pellets because they can be used in all solid fuel boilers. All that has to be installed is a pellet or briquette burner and storage to adapt the boiler for peat fuel combustion.Fireplaces fitted with electric pellet and briquettes feeding mechanisms are also available. These are suited as a source of additional heat in buildings without central heating.
Peat briquettes and pellets advantages
Easy adaptable It is an environment friendly fuel for use in big central heating systems as well as in private houses and usage is easily automated

Silo/transport volume for equivalent energy value

The energy needed for transport of raw material, production of pellets and briquettes and transport of fuel to the end consumer, is less than 5% of the energy delivered.

Low storage and transport cost To make storage and transport of the products more effective and economical.
Low surplus content Only 2-3 % of burning peat fuel turn into ashes which can be use like fertilizers
Ecologycal clean Fuel is made from 100% natural products with no additives or binders. It produce more heat when burned and less smoke. Pressed peat is an environmentally friendly solid fuel, due to low sulphur emissions.Combustion of pellets would never give additional carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Thus, no hazzard of green house effect.

The effect of moisture on the energy content in peat

The moisture content is very important for calorific value of peat fuel. Moisture content in raw peat is 60 -70 % Moisture content in pressed peat is 10 -12 %

High value of calorific 1.5 ton of pressed peat is equal 1 ton of coal or 0.7 ton of oil
Low cost fuel Price is a factor in favour of Peat briquettes and Pellets compared to oil.
